In 1988 Steamship Shieldhall was rescued from the scrapyard by a group of dedicated volunteers who set up The Solent Steam Packet as a charitable trust with the objective of restoring, maintaining and operating Steamship Shieldhall for the benefit of the public.

Since taking on ownership of Shieldhall we have returned her to operational condition and continue to maintain and operate her to the rigorous standards set by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. The ship has also become a focal point for the training of young people, students, apprentices and the emergency services. She provides a community focal point for volunteering and a working example of 19th and 20th century industrial and maritime history. Above all else she provides the opportunity for an enjoyable day at sea for passengers of all ages.

Throughout this time our costs have increased year on year and predicted rises in the cost of fuel, insurance and maritime legislation make every year a challenge. Our income is dependent on what we can realistically charge for passage on our excursions, earni ngs from charters and hires alongside and donations received.

Please help us to keep Shieldhall “in steam” by making a donation using the Local Giving link below. Please remember to complete the Gift Aid section if it applies to you as this increases the value of your donation by 25 pence for every pound donated.

You might also like to consider donating via sponsorship, share ownership, a legacy or a gift in memory of a loved one. For more detail on any of these options please contact
