Week 3 in Falmouth Dry Dock - Riveting
Wednesday, 30 April 2014
Shieldhall is currently in Falmouth for dry dock. We are planning to be in Falmouth for around 28 days as essential work needs to be carried out on the ship. This is all part of our Heritage Lottery Fund.
The rivet has been heated and inserted into the prepared hole and the rivet head is shaped and formed from the outside. As the rivet cools, it contracts and makes a good seal.
This image shows one of the riveting team working and the red hot rivet can be seen at the end of the riveting tool.
