Solent Steam Packet Ltd is delighted to announce the opening of a new ‘Welcome Terminal’ for Steamship SHIELDHALL at her home base, ABP Southampton's 48 Berth.

Supplied by Willbox, a part of Williams Shipping Holdings Ltd, to an SSPL design concept, the ‘Welcome Terminal’ provides a reception area, ticket facility and information point for visitors. It will also be utilised as on-shore office space and provides a presence for Steamship Shieldhall when the ship is away on excursions or visiting marine events along the south coast.

On opening the new facility with Willbox’s Andy Wilkins, Shieldhall's HLF Project Manager, Graham Mackenzie said, “I am really grateful for Willbox’s support in realising our  ‘Welcome Terminal’ concept. It will create a great first impression and complement the unique experience that Steamship Shieldhall gives all her visitors, old and young."

Chris Williams, Head of Sales at Willbox said “It was a real privilege for us to be able to help such a historic vessel and brilliant project. With such a long marine history of our own going back to 1894, it felt only right that Steamship Shieldhall should have a proper welcome terminal for her guests as they embark.”

The Welcome Terminal is part of a 3-year project, "Saving Shieldhall, Learning throughConservation in Action" which was granted £1.4 million support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in 2013. The aim is to secure the long term future of the vessel, with the continued demanding but satisfying work of a dedicated group of volunteers.

SS Shieldhall has an active programme of sailings throughout 2014. For more information, please visit www.ss-shieldhall.co.uk
