Final chance to cruise on Steamship Shieldhall in 2015
There is still an opportunity to sample TripAdvisor's number one experience in Southampton in 2015 – a cruise on Steamship Shieldhall. Shieldhall’s final cruise for 2015 will be on the afternoon of Sun 13th September (depart at 4pm, return at 6pm, adults £18, children £5), an afternoon’s Docks Cruise marking the Port’s Wartime connections. Earlier in the day Shieldhall will be open free of charge as part of the Heritage Day celebrations (10am – 3pm) with WWII re-enactors on board and other activities taking place at the Docks and in Southampton over the course of the weekend. These are summarised below:
Sat 12 September: Free guided tour by bus from Tudor House at 10.30, 12.00, 14.00 and 15.30. Tudor House is open for free (Sat 12 Sept only)
Visit the world's oldest Bowling Green (dating from 13th century)
Free guided tour of Southampton Old Cemetery at 11.30 and 13.30
Sun 13 September: Have a look around SS Shieldhall between 10.00 - 15.00. Explore the Bridge, Engine Room and Boiler Room of the oldest passenger-cargo steamship still active in Europe. Shieldhall is also staging an afternoon Docks Cruise between 16.00 -18.00, adults £18, children £5, family £41. Refreshments available. As usual with the Shieldhall, there is access to the Engine Room, Boiler Room and Bridge.
The Southampton Tram Project and Dunkirk Little Ships workshop will be open. A heritage bus will link the various locations - for full timetable, visit www.sadtht.co.uk.
Before the season closes there is a chance for Young Persons to experience an Alongside Training Day on Sat 19th September (10am – 4pm, £20 per young person) when there will be a number of nautical activities and scenarios to participate in.
