Southampton on the Map at Excursions Show

Representatives from Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST), Steamship Shieldhall and Southampton City Council’s Museums & Gallery were flying the flag for Southampton at Saturday’s Excursions Trade Show at Alexandra Palace in London.

‘There is so much happening in Southampton this year, and this was an ideal opportunity to relate this to the trade and organisers looking for inspiration for day, weekend and short break itineraries’ said Bill Sainsbury, Nuffield Southampton Theatre’s Head of Marketing and Press. ‘There was a lot of interest in the opening of Studio 144 in the Cultural Quarter and our Spring Season and new  production, The Grapes of Wrath.  NST and Southampton’s other attractions and hotels recognise the opportunity Southampton has to attract audiences in addition to those who stay in the city either pre or post cruise. Not only do we have the Cultural Quarter, Southampton has just seen the  opening of the Watermark West Quay Complex with its magnificent views leading out onto the historic western walls.’  This sentiment was echoed by Nigel Philpott, Marketing Director of Steamship Shieldhall who launched a joint package at the show with SeaCity Museum, one of Southampton City Council’s three heritage venues. ‘We’re delighted to be promoting Southampton and working together, providing ideas for staying in the city’ said Nigel. ‘To that end we’ve devised ‘In the Footsteps of Titanic’ - an all-day itinerary focusing on the ill-fated liner’s association with Southampton. This includes a visit to SeaCity Museum with its permanent Titanic Gallery, a walk around Southampton’s Titanic Quarter with a Green Badge Guide, and a 3hr cruise down Southampton Water on Steamship Shieldhall.’ The ‘In the Footsteps of Titanic’ package is priced at £35.50 per person for groups of 10 or more, and is available on Shieldhall’s 2017 3-hour sailings taking place on 27 & 29 May, 17 June, 22 July and 16 & 17 September.
