COVID 19 - Poole Harbour Boat Show cancelled
We are sorry to inform you that Shieldhall sailings to and from Poole in June will not be taking place after it was announced today that the Poole Harbour 2020 Boat Show is to be cancelled. Shieldhall was due to sail to Poole on Thursday 11 June and return on Monday 15 June, and all ticket holders will be offered a full refund or an opportunity to transfer their tickets to another Shieldhall 2020 or 2021 sailing. Later in the year, Shieldhall plans to return to Poole on Monday 17 August, using Poole Quay as a base with trips to see the Bournemouth Air Festival on Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, before returning to Southampton on Monday 24 August.
Officials for the Boat Show noted: 'Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) regretfully announce the cancellation of the Poole Harbour Boat Show 2020. The immensely difficult decision has been taken due to the ongoing and rapid spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus), which has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The show was due to take place from 12th to 14th June on Poole Quay, but will now return in 2021.
Coronavirus has created considerable uncertainty and the long-term impact of the virus remains unknown. Pressures on the resources of all businesses across the marine industry and beyond are high and planning for the coming months has become very difficult. The decision to cancel the show has not been taken lightly, however in order to provide clarity for everyone involved, the difficult decision has been made. With over 30,000 show visitors, Poole Harbour Commissioners also has a huge responsibility to public safety which they take very seriously.
Jim Stewart, Poole Harbour Commissioners CEO said, "The Boat Show has been a huge success over the past five years. However, the current Coronavirus threat has raised many concerns. Deferring a decision to go ahead could potentially add to existing uncertainty and therefore PHC has decided that it would be prudent to cancel now and focus on our key harbour and port roles and responsibilities. We know that many attendees and exhibitors will be disappointed, however the Poole Harbour Boat Show will return in 2021." Poole Harbour Commissioners are committed to delivering a high-quality boat show for visitors and exhibitors alike and the plans for 2020 had already developed on the previous five years. The show will return in 2021 as the fantastic event the boating community has come to love, and the gap will allow further plans to come to fruition for an even bigger and better show on the 11th -13th June 2021.'
