  • In the Footsteps Of Southampton’s Towers and Vaults

In the Footsteps Of Southampton’s Towers and Vaults

‘In the Footsteps of Southampton’s Towers and Vaults’. Spend a day in Southampton – on land and sea – exploring the maritime city’s connections with a visit to God’s House Tower, a guided walk around the Old Town and a cruise on Steamship Shieldhall on Southampton Water / The Solent. God’s House Tower, the closest attraction to Shieldhall, has a rich maritime history and a location overlooking Southampton Water. Groups will be able to visit the roof of the Tower which offers spectacular views, and also take a connected tour encompassing a number of underground vaults, learning about Southampton’s lucrative wine trade during the middle ages. There will be stories of war, disease and piracy to take in. Shieldhall is the country’s oldest passenger-cargo steamship, with engineering connections to the Titanic. Your cruise will pass down Southampton Water, as the Titanic did on 10 April 1912, with a commentary pointing out the White Star Titanic berth. You are welcome to visit the Engine Room and Boiler Room on Shieldhall and also meet the Captain on the Bridge!

    * (If groups would like to book a Tour Manager to accompany them throughout the day, this can be made available at an additional cost).

Refreshments: Available at extra cost at God’s House Tower or on SS Shieldhall

Guided tour of Southampton’s Old Town, Towers and Vaults lasts approx. 1 1/2 hours (included in price).

God’s House Tower is open from 10am daily. We would recommend the day commencing with a visit to God’s House Tower, followed by the Guided Tour of Southampton’s Old Town Towers and Vaults, though these can be followed in any order. The day would typically finish with the SS Shieldhall Cruise, though morning cruises can be selected where the order for the day is reversed.
