One way trip to Poole - Sailing from Southampton

Bank Holiday Monday 26th August 2019, 10:00 - 16:00

One way trip to Poole, passengers make their own way back (coach transport may be booked – see separate form). See the sights of Southampton Water, The Needles, Hengistbury Head and Poole Harbour, passing Brownsea Island and Sandbanks. Shieldhall will berth at Poole Quay, close to Poole Pottery, an approx. 15 min walk from Poole Railway Station.

As part of your cruise, see the impressive engine room with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship’s steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the Captain and our volunteer crew; listen to the informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and The Solent; pass close to the great ocean liners and container ships; walk the teak decks; relax in the Saloon with our wide range of refreshments including tea / coffee; real ale; a range of Titanic bottled beers; wine and hot and cold food, available on all trips.

Children will have fun with our interactive Shieldhall Log Book, collecting stickers from various stations on board!

Joining Instructions

Dear Shieldhall Ticket Holder

We are looking forward to welcoming you aboard SS Shieldhall on Bank Holiday Monday 26 August our ‘One-Way Trip to Poole’ excursion between 10am – 4pm. Shieldhall will depart from Berth 101, City Cruise Terminal, Western Docks, Herbert Walker Avenue, Southampton, SO15 1HJ.  Look for signage to Dock Gate 10. Boarding for the cruise may take place one hour before departure, ie. from 9am. We request passengers be on board no later than 9.45am, as at this point the gangway will be lifted with the ship looking to leave promptly at 10am.  Please allow yourself plenty of time to reach Southampton, which will be busier than usual with the bank holiday traffic.

Parking is available close to the City Cruise Terminal in Parking Eye car parks. Please note there is a charge to park using this facility – please check the following site for up-to-date information before you travel (up to 10 hours parking incurs a charge of £25).

Alternatively, you may wish to park at: Leisure World, West Quay Road, Southampton SO15 1RE. This is also operated by Parking Eye and charges are made between 10am – 6pm (maximum charge is £5.00 for over 4 hours). If you choose this facility, please note you will still need to enter the Docks via Dock Gate 10 after parking your car – do not look to enter via Dock Gate 8 (even if you can see the ship!) because this will be closed.

Look out for Shieldhall parking signs when you enter Dock Gate 10. It is possible to drop off passengers who have difficulty in walking alongside the ship, but cars must be returned to a Car Park afterwards. A reminder that Parking Eye car parks require up front payment for the number of hours you expect to be parked. If you do over run, it is possible to pay an additional fee when you return to your car at the City Cruise terminal car park.

Please bring your ticket for check-in at the gangway with the Purser (you will have received this immediately following your booking).

Once on board, tea, coffee, soft drinks, wine and a range of bottled beers / real ale (including Flack Manor Double-Drop) may be purchased. Hot food, including bacon baps and quiche, jacket potatoes, homemade vegetable soup, plus cakes (including delicious Caymana Rum Cakes!), New Forest Ice Cream and a range of crisps and confectionery will also be available. You are welcome to bring picnics on board (no alcohol) but please note that use of the Saloon for dining is only for guests using food purchased from the Galley. The Shieldhall Gift Shop will be open with a new line of souvenirs. The Engine Room, Boiler Room and Bridge will all be open for inspection once underway.

During your cruise we will pass close to the sights of the Solent including The Needles, Hengistbury Head, The Old Harry Rocks and Poole Harbour. A return coach (Adults £14) may be booked back to Southampton, leaving Poole Quay at approx.. 4.15 / 4.30pm if you wish.

Our arrival in Poole is indicative only and whilst we are unlikely to vary much from the time shown, circumstances may mean we arrive slightly earlier or later at the request of the Harbour Master.

Tickets remain available for this cruise and also Shieldhall's three sailings to the Bournemouth Air Festival on Fri 30, Sat 31 August and Sun 1 September, together with Shieldhall’s return trip from Poole to Southampton on Monday 2 September. Bookings may be made online at

If for any reason you need to contact Shieldhall on the day of the cruise, please contact 0749 6450328 or 07769 114271. Please note this phone will be manned from 8am and should only be used for emergency calls relating to that day’s cruise.

Wishing you a very enjoyable excursion!
