Shieldhall is a unique ship representing an extremely important part of the UK’s maritime heritage. A flagship of the National Historic Fleet, Shieldhall attracts visitors from all over the world. Not only does she provide a very special opportunity for the general public of all ages to visit, sail on her and learn of her history but she also supports the local community in many different ways providing training facilities for youth groups, students, apprentices and others.
Why the community needs us
All work associated with Shieldhall is carried out by unpaid volunteers who work on the ship year round to preserve her, sail on her during the summer season and provide support for community activities. Not only do we provide youth training but Shieldhall is a unique stage for theatrical groups, film makers, music festivals and a realistic training platform for the emergency services.
