Stage 7 – Saloon Upgrades
Looking aft. This gives a good impression of the size of the space without any furniture our chairs. A closer look at the “uncovered” windows on the Port side. The glass has been obscured to act as a modesty panel for those on the outside stairway.
Saloon Refurbishment – Stage 6
Des working the new carpet round the for’d stanchion. New, IMO approved underlay. Looking forward from the port side. The new lights in the deckhead will be noted. They provide a traditional aspect, but inside have LED lamps.
Saloon Refurbishment – Stage 5
This shows the area around the skylights completed but waiting for the lights to be installed. A great improvement on the previous arrangement. Looking forward. The cabinet across the forward end will contain various elements of the AV equipment, which will be lockable. This cabinet has been custom made using laminates to give hard wearing aspects and real woods to create the traditional effect.
Saloon Refurbishment – Stage 4
The Saloon, looking forward and the insulation materials are progressing aft. Again, the various wires are all new and have been coiled up ready for connection. Looking up to the Saloon skylights and for the first time, the area has been insulated. A nice, neat job. Note the cable coiled up ready for a connection later on.
Saloon Refurbishment – Stage 3
Saloon looking forward. All the old insulation has been removed allowing the superstructure shell to be inspected. The group at the front end are considering where the various elements of Audio Visual equipment will be located. Saloon, starboard side. The newly opened windows are apparent and the plan is that making new frames for them will be an apprentice project for City College working in conjunction with Moss Marine. The Saloon is being completely re-cabled with modern materials replacing cables of 60+ years. Also being installed are the various wires for the AV system.
Saloon Refurbishment – Stage 2
The plywood facing has been removed and shows the excellent work performed by the early volunteers by building the framework, which will be re-used. Saloon starboard side the blanked off windows will be noted. An early modification by our volunteers to act as modesty panels for those using the ladders to the Boat Deck.
Saloon Refurbishment – Stage 1
Due to the Lottery Project we are pleased to announce the Saloon is having a major upgrade. The biggest upgrade it has had in 60 years! This will include insulation upgrades, lighting upgrades and IT enhancements.
Looking forward cleared of all items ready for the strip down. Looking aft ready for strip down. The rather “cold” florescent lights will be replaced with something more traditional.
