Summary of Executive Committee Meeting held – December 2011
Minutes of the meeting held on 7th October were approved. A summary has previously been posted and the full minutes are available from the Secretary if required.
Crew training will start early in 2012.
The Treasury function is moving from John Everett to Richard Walker who is now the contact for all matters financial. Richard (and the ECM) is looking for someone willing to take on the roles of Editor for Shieldhall Matters and a “Webmaster”.
Comment and suggestions recorded at the Half Year Meeting in November were considered by the ECM. An offer from Edwina Cook to organise an on board fundraising dinner in February will be progressed.
Plans for the 2012 sailing and events programme are well advanced and will commence with a number of commemorative “Titanic” sailings in April, subject to satisfactory completion and approval of the interim frame repairs.
A Heritage Lottery Fund bid has been submitted. Development of the bid has been a mammoth task led by Graham Mackenzie working with a small core team. Huge support for our bid has come from notable individuals in government, heritage and the maritime industry. If successful we will be able to move forward with a major repair and refurbishment programme for Shieldhall that will greatly enhance our customer experience. We await a decision in March.
A generous grant has been received from the Headley Trust that will largely meet the cost of the current repair programme. Engine room frame repairs are progressing well.
John Everett has chosen to stand down from his role as head of Shieldhall Catering, a position he has held for 6 years. The ECM acknowledged the importance and significant financial contribution that catering has made to the ship. An urgent need now exists to find an individual or group of members willing and able to take Event Management and Catering Services forward.
Next meeting 1st February 2012 15:30.
